Sabretooth Easter Egg Featured In Logan Deleted Scene

When Logan arrived in theaters earlier this year, the critically and commercially successful film capped off a legacy of X-Men stories featuring Hugh Jackman's portrayal of the titular character.

After appearances in six X-Men movies and two other solo films, Logan ended the character's story in a fitting way that recognized the significance of the character's cinematic history, but there were some aspects that some fans questioned. While the X-Men don't properly make an appearance outside of some comic book stories, fans also wondered why Sabretooth didn't show up in the movie.

A deleted scene from Logan recently surfaced showing that Sabretooth did in fact have a small presence in the film, a scene that actually references the previously mentioned X-Men comic books as well as the first film in the Wolverine trilogy.

The scene, called "Bobby's Action Figures," shows Logan discussing the events of X-Men Origins: Wolverine with one of Laura's friend's who also escaped the depraved experiments being conducted by Doctor Xander Rice.

The child, named Bobby, plays with Wolverine and Sabretooth action figures and says to Logan that Laura told him the stories from the comic books weren't real. He then asks Logan if Sabretooth was real and Logan answers that he was—and that they were both in a program not unlike what the kids went through.

"So you did some mean things with him?" Bobby asks Logan.

"Yeah," he responds.

"But now you're doing good things," the kid says to the former X-Men member.

"Kid, I don't know what I'm doing."

It's a great scene but superfluous to the entire plot, as Logan's uncertainty was a consistent theme without it. It's a nice nod to Sabretooth, who was slated to appear until actor Liev Schreiber's schedule got in the way, but is unnecessary.

We'll see what other deleted scenes didn't make the cut when Logan hits Digital HD May 16, followed by its release on Blu-ray and DVD on May 23.

In the near future, a weary Logan cares for an ailing Professor X in a hide out on the Mexican border. But Logan's attempts to hide from the world and his legacy are up-ended when a young mutant arrives, being pursued by dark forces.

Logan is directed by James Mangold, who co-wrote the screenplay with Scott Frank and Michael Green, from a story by Mangold, and also stars Patrick Stewart, Richard E. Grant, Boyd Holbrook, Stephen Merchant and Dafne Keen.
