Logan is proving to be a big hit with critics. The film is currently showing a 96% rating on review aggregation website Rotten Tomatoes.

According to the Rotten Tomatoes' critical consensus, "Hugh Jackman makes the most of his final outing as Wolverine with a gritty, nuanced performance in a violent but surprisingly thoughtful superhero action film that defies genre conventions."

Logan, which is directed by James Mangold, doesn't yet have enough critical reviews to earn it Rotten Tomatoes' "Certified Fresh" badge, but it seems well on its way. As it stands, Logan is easily the best-reviewed of the Wolverine trilogy movies – X-Men Origins: Wolverine scored a rotten 38% while Mangold's The Wolverine earned the fresh, but not "certified fresh," 69% score – and even tops the best that the best that the main X-Men movies franchise has produced, X-Men: Days of Future Past at 91%. Time will tell if Logan remains on top of the X-Men movies as more reviews come in.

Logan currently has a 4.27 out of 5 ComicBook.com anticipation rating, so expectations are clearly high. If the reviews so far are anything to go by, including ComicBook.com's own Logan review, it seems that those expectations will be met.

Logan is Hugh Jackman's final performance as Wolverine, a role he has been reprising since the original X-Men movie in 2000. Logan is loosely inspired by the Wolverine comic book story "Old Man Logan" by writer Mark Millar and artist Steve McNiven.

Logan takes place in the year 2029, where mutant births have become extremely rare. The defenders of mutant kind, the X-Men, are long gone, and the only remains of them are an old and struggling Charles Xavier and a weary Logan. Logan's vaunted healing factor has slowed, and at times doesn't seem to work at all. When a young mutant needs his help, Logan has to unsheathe his claws once more. His job isn't over yet.

Logan stars Hugh Jackman (Logan), Boyd Holbrook (Donald Pierce), Patrick Stewart (Charles Xavier), Dafne Keen (Laura Kinney/X-23), Doris Morgado (Maria), Stephen Merchant (Caliban), Elizabeth Rodriguez (Gabriela), and Richard E. Grant (Dr. Zander Rice). James Mangold is directing and helped on the screenplay along with Scott Frank and Michael Green.

Logan hits theaters on March 3, 2017.
