Luke Cage: Mike Colter Wants To Team Up With Iron Fist or Jessica Jones After Defenders

Mike Colter not only looks the part of Marvel's newest hero, Luke Cage, but he's made it clear he knows the character inside and out as well.

In a recent interview with IGN, Colter was asked about future Netflix projects featuring Luke Cage. Instead of giving vague answers formed by his opinions, Colter cited specific storylines from the comics that he would like to see in his future.

"I think that anything is possible down the road...We need to develop the characters," Colter said. "I think there's a big-picture plan that includes everyone doing their own series, which we've done, culminating to make The Defenders. I think after that anything goes."

"We have the Heroes For Hire thing that could possibly happen," he said, referencing Luke Cage and Iron Fist's longtime teamup. "And we have the Jessica and Luke in the Alias comics hooking up, having a child, and changing their life style. That could happen. You have a multitude of things that could happen."

Not only did Colter say these were things he'd like to see, but it sounds like these are plans that have been discussed between executives.

The first idea, Heroes For Hire, focuses on the team-up between Luke Cage and Iron Fist, the next character that will have a Netflix/Marvel series. Beginning in issue #54, when the Power-Man series (originally featuring Luke Cage on his own) changed the title to Heroes For Hire. Iron Fist first joined the series in issue #48 to boost sales for both franchises, and the title featured both characters for the rest of the run. They worked as literal Heroes for Hire, selling their services as superheroes.

The series was unique for readers, because it blended two very different characters to form an enticing partnership. When Cage's attitude and power was paired with Iron Fist's scorn and finesse, it created a formidable bond. The series became a staple for Marvel Comics in the late 70s and early 80s.

As far as the Alias story he mentioned, this is regarding the run in Alias comics, and subsequent Jessica Jones and Avengers stories, where Luke and Jessica attempt to settle down.

In the Jessica Jones series on Netflix, Luke and Jessica's relationship was founded. Over the course of the comics, the two develop a love that they continue for many issues.

At one point, the two attempt to slow down, as they move in together and have a child. Instead of creating a more normal life for themselves, this ends up making things even more complicated.

Fans would love to see either one of these series in the future, as it seems they can't get enough of Luke Cage at the moment. The series has just debuted on Netflix, and has quickly become the number one trending topic on social media.
