Did Marvel's Defenders Just Hint At A Spider-Man Tie-In?

It was only a matter of time before New York got overcrowded with heroes. The MCU has some impressive superhero gangs which call Manhattan home, and New York City's other boroughs are also spoken for. Spider-Man has Queens, and the Defenders got Hell's Kitchen plus some. Now, it looks like the two superhero sectors might know each other. Social media has some fans thinking the Defenders are already aware of their friendly neighborhood Spider-Man.

Over on Facebook, fans are buzzing over an innocuous comment which the official Defenders' account wrote. The show's page posted a series of links the other day which come from the fiction New York Bulletin. The paper, which hosts writers like Karen Paige, had its so-called fake news blasted on a viral site for Marvel's The Defenders. However, a comment left on the page's post is what has fans speculating about a Spider-Man: Homecoming tie-in.

A fan named Daniel Farley commented on the Defenders' post, writing, "Need more info on that Spider guy we first saw in Germany fighting alongside Iron Man and is now apparently based in NYC???" The comment got plenty of reactions from fans as it nods directly to the events of Captain America: Civil War and Spider-Man: Homecoming. The comment would have stopped there, but then the official Defenders page responded.

"Spider guy?" the account wrote back, and fans were left to argue over if the nod counts as the superhero team's official acknowledgement of Spider-Man.

Fans will already know that Marvel's Netflix series are tied into the MCU, but they do not often make direct nods to the franchise's cinematic ventures. The first season of Daredevil overtly nodded to the Avengers' schtick with the Chitauri, but larger easter eggs have been harder and harder to come by since then.

While netizens may want to believe the Facebook post indicates a larger conspiracy theory about Spider-Man, there is just no evidence to back up the claim. The Defenders social media team is known for ribbing fans, and Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige has stressed there are no immediate plans to crossover its theatrical and television projects. Fans will hopefully get a Spider-Man easter egg when The Defenders does drop because of the group's street-level work. But, if you were hoping to see Peter Parker take lessons at Colleen Wing's dojo, then you sadly have another thing coming.

Marvel's The Defenders is the miniseries that will bring together all of Marvel's Netflix stars, including Iron Fist(Finn Jones) Daredevil (Charlie Cox), Jessica Jones (Krysten Ritter), and Luke Cage (Mike Colter), to protect New York City from its greatest threat yet.

Marvel's The Defenders is developed by Douglas Petrie and Marco Ramirez. The miniseries will also feature Sigourney Weaver as the villain, Alexandra (Sigourney Weaver), and several recurring guest stars from Marvel's Daredevil, Marvel's Jessica Jones, Marvel's Luke Cage, and Marvel's Iron Fist, including Eka Darville as Malcolm Ducasse, Simone Missick as Misty Knight, Deborah Ann Woll as Karen Page, Elden Henson as Foggy Nelson, Carrie-Anne Moss as Jeri Hogarth, Scott Glenn as Stick, Rachael Taylor as Trish Walker, Rosario Dawson as Claire Temple, and Jessica Henwick as Colleen Wing.

Marvel's The Defenders premieres on Netflix on Aug. 18, 2017.
