New Defenders Teaser Gives First Look At Marvel’s The Punisher

Earlier today, Marvel dropped an odd new trailer for it's next Netflix series. The Defenders debuted a new video that highlights each of its street-level vigilantes, but fans who stuck around until the very end got a very special gift. The trailer secretly housed a first-look at Marvel's The Punisher, and the footage has got fans geeking.

In the video above, you can catch the reveal of Jon Bernthal's Frank Castle. The actor is shown appearing from a dark hallway once the Netflix logo fades from the trailer's end.

"Looks like I arrived just in time," Castle can be heard saying. As for the character himself, the Punisher looks like he has seen better days. The vigilante is bloodied up in the first-look footage, and his armor is riddled with bullet holes. Fans can also see the chest armor is spray painted with a version of the Punisher's skull logo, and the guy is toting some guns which Luke Cage would even be wary of.

If you are wondering if the footage is sourced from Marvel's The Punisher, then the answer is yet. The reel has not been seen before, and Entertainment Weekly went an extra mile to confirm the snippet is from the character's standalone series.

The Punisher's standalone is set to drop later this year with reports pointing towards a November release date. Recently, a few details about the series slipped with episode director Stephen Sufjik did an interview with Combat Radio. It was there the executive confirmed he filmed the show's finale and teased the series' overall one.

"I can't get into too many details, because of course the NDA that I've signed with Marvel are fairly comprehensive. But we finished, I finished directing the finale for The Punisher, not that long ago. So, that baby is in post-production. I think I'm allowed to say that it's really good," Sufjik explained.

"It is different than the other Marvel shows as far as it is an adult drama. There are no superpowers. You know the Punisher is a character who is based on vengeance, fundamentally. His family is a victim of some horrific thing," Sufjik said. "But the character himself is well-known and the way that they approach it is very different from the other shows."

The Defenders will bring phase one of the Netflix Marvel universe to a close, and will likely set up the next big phase of the universe. In addition to the core four shows (Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, Iron Fist), the universe will also be adding a Punisher series to its schedule, though no release date has been announced.

The Defenders stars Charlie Cox (Daredevil/Matt Murdock), Krysten Ritter (Jessica Jones), Mike Colter (Luke Cage), Finn Jones (Iron Fist), Jessica Henwick (Colleen Wing), Rosario Dawson (Claire Temple), Sigourney Weaver (Alexandra), Elodie Yung (Elektra Natchios), Babs Olusanmokun (Sowande), Elden Henson (Foggy Nelson), Simone Missick (Misty Knight), Rachel Taylor (Trish Walker), Scott Glenn (Stick), Eka Darville (Malcolm Ducasse), Debbi Morgan (Delores), Carrie-Anne Moss (Jeri Hogarth), and Deborah Ann Woll (Karen Page).

Daredevil seasons 1 and 2, Jessica Jones season 1, Luke Cage season 1, and Iron Fist season 1 are all available on Netflix now, while The Defenders is expected later in the year. The Punisher does not currently have a release date. Netflix has announced a second season of Jessica Jones and a third season of Daredevil, but no release dates have been announced for those either.
