Marvel's Inhumans: How Lockjaw's Teleportation Power Was Created

Lockjaw continues to be a bright spot in the early Marvel's Inhumans footage, and the show's creators have revealed what went into bringing his powers to the small screen.

Showrunner Scott Buck and director Roel Reine sat down with ComicBook.com's Brandon Davis at San Diego Comic-Con 2017 to talk about Lockjaw's journey from sketch to television.

"I remember the discussion we had about Lockjaw's teleportation because I wanted to do something really organic," said Reine, "so I gave him (Buck) some sketches and some photos to pitch the idea of how Lockjaw would organically dissolve into a sandburst kind of thing, and people loved it at Marvel so we created it. So seeing it back now on the screen like yesterday and seeing all these kids be so excited was really really cool to see."

Lockjaw's powers look impressive on screen, but Reine points out that Lockjaw unto himself is an achievement in CG.

"But also on account of Lockjaw, no one really I think understands this, but nobody has done a full CG character on a TV series before. So Lockjaw is the first. It's a big responsibility for all of us.

Marvel's Inhumans stars Anson Mount as Black Bolt, Serinda Swan as Medusa, Iwan Rheon as Maximus, Ken Leung as Karnak, Eme Ikwuakor as Gorgon, Isabelle Cornish as Crystal, Mike Moh as Triton, Sonya Balmores as Auran, and Ellen Woglom.

Marvel's Inhumans is executive produced by Scott Buck (Dexter, Marvel's Iron Fist) with Jeph Loeb (Marvel's Daredevil, Marvel's Jessica Jones, Marvel's Luke Cage) and Jim Chory (Marvel's Daredevil, Marvel's Jessica Jones, Marvel's Luke Cage). Buck is serving as showrunner. Roel Reine (Admiral, Black Sails) will direct the first two episodes, which will debut in IMAX theaters. Marvel's Inhumans is co-produced by Marvel Television and ABC Studios.

The first two episodes of Marvel's Inhumans will premiere in IMAX theaters on Friday, Sept. 1. The full eight-episode series will air on ABC on Fridays as part of the network's fall television lineup.
