Here's Who Idris Elba Thinks Matthew McConaughey Should Play in the MCU

It's safe to say that Matthew McConaughey has become one of the actors most sought-after to join the Marvel Cinematic Universe. While McConaughey's name has come up in the conversation for multiple significant MCU roles, his The Dark Tower costar has a very particular part in mind.

Idris Elba - who is already an MCU mainstay thanks to the Thor franchise - was recently asked what role McConaughey could play in a Marvel film. And according to the actor, he could see McConaughey as a younger version of Thor's father, Odin.

"In Marvel world? There's a couple of versions." Elba explained to MTV News. "He could be Thor's dad. Play a young version of him. Smash it."

It's safe to say that this is an interesting choice, as McConaughey has quite a different cadence from Anthony Hopkins, the actor currently portraying Odin. Still, with the Thor franchise taking some pretty creative leaps in November's Thor: Ragnarok, a younger Odin certainly isn't out of the question.

McConaughey has almost stepped into an MCU role a couple of times before. The actor was initially up for roles in both Doctor Strange and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 - even inspiring official concept art of him as Ego the Living Planet. While McConaughey ultimately went for the creative freedom of projects like The Dark Tower, its safe to assume that he could eventually land the perfect MCU role.
