New Logan Trailer Reportedly Set To Debut In January

12/27/2016 08:12 pm EST

In just a few days, 2017 will take charge as the new year rolls in. The coming months will do away with 2016 through a slew of new movies and television shows - and Logan will be part of those ranks. The third Wolverine flick will see Hugh Jackman bow out of the iconic role, and its rated-R tone is sure to please a more mature audience. Earlier this year, fans got their first-look at the series thanks to a somber trailer that sampled music from Johnny Cash. And, now, it seems like another trailer will be gifted to fans after the new year.

According to Trailer Track, a new Logan trailer is allegedly set to drop on January 16, 2017. You can read the site's tweet below: "Next #Logan trailer - word from Fox Showcase events (via @splatterwelt) is w/c Jan 16."

If you are curious about the date, then you should know it was likely chosen because of xXx: Return of Xander Cage. January is traditionally a slow one for box office buzz, but the Vin Diesel flick is expected to pull fans into theaters. As such, Logan may have plans to attach its new trailer with the release in someway to generate some buzz.

Earlier this month, fans learned that a new trailer for Logan was classified. The British Board of Film filed a report that indicated a new, 90-second trailer would be released in the future. At the time, no potential release date was associated with the classification, but Trailer Track's new report seems to well-timed to be coincidental.

Logan takes place in the year 2024, where mutant births have become extremely rare. The defenders of mutant kind, the X-Men, are long gone, and the only remains of them are an old and struggling Charles Xavier and a weary Logan. Logan's vaunted healing factor has slowed, and at times doesn't seem to work at all. When a young mutant needs his help, Logan has to unsheathe his claws once more. His job isn't over yet.

Logan stars Hugh Jackman (Logan), Boyd Holbrook (Donald Pierce), Patrick Stewart (Charles Xavier), Dafne Keen (Laura Kinney/X-23), Doris Morgado (Maria), Stephen Merchant (Caliban), Elizabeth Rodriguez (Gabriela), and Richard E. Grant (Dr. Zander Rice). James Mangold is directing and helped on the screenplay along with Scott Frank and Michael Green.
