New Mutants Rumored To Film In Boston

The X-Men film universe continues to grow in some exciting ways. From Deadpool's R-rated success on the big screen to the unlikely breakout phenomenon that is FOX's Legion, the franchise is doing quite well for itself these days. There are even more projects in the pipeline, including the mysterious New Mutants project, which has the working title "Teen Spirit" at the moment.

FOX likes to shoot their films in places like Vancouver and Montreal, but New Mutants might be exploring a new location. Director Josh Boone recently shared some photos on Instagram (via Omega Underground) that indicate he's looking at locations in Boston Massachusetts. In the first post, he says "#scouting and came across this. I don't know what the artist meant but I certainly know what it means to me #newmutants #xmen" The graffiti he's pointing to says NM, so it makes sense.

The second post shows what looks to be the overlook at a park, with the caption "#boston #noreason". The film will start shooting this year, so if he's already scouting Boston it will likely end up being shot there. Plus, the other locations are currently already occupied with Deadpool 2 in Vancouver and another untitled X-Men film in Montreal.

No word yet on casting for the film, but Boone's original pitch called for a trilogy, so he has big plans. Boone previously said "After I made The Fault in Our Stars, we made Fox a comic book. It walked them through a trilogy of New Mutant films that would build on each other. We used this program called Comic Life, and took all the images we had loved from the series and strung them together to show them the movie we wanted to do. We brought it to [producer] Simon [Kinberg] and he really liked it. We've been going for the past year and a half to get it ready, and I'm about to go location scout and we have a release date now."

Logan is in theaters now, while Deadpool 2 is slated for a March 2, 2018, release. New Mutants is also debuting sometime in 2018.
