Nobody wants to see their favorite heroes step down, but the stars of the Marvel Cinematic Universe are nearing that point. Robert Downey Jr. and Chris Evans are arguably the closest to leaving their prominent roles, as they've donned their respective mantles for the most films.

Recently, a lot of the talk has swirled around Evans and his future with the franchise. There have been rumors stating that he's close to leaving, and he's expressed an interest in doing other types of films.

However, in a recent interview with USA Today, Evans shifted some of the attention over to RDJ. After stating that nothing actually lasts forever, the Captain America star revealed that Downey may even be closer to retiring the hero than he is.

"Downey is far closer to reaching that point where he may walk away. And I don't know how you replace Downey as Tony Stark," said Evans. "I don't know who else can touch that."

Hopefully, Evans is just talking about the action side of Downey's role. Some of speculated that Tony Stark will take on a role similar to Nick Fury in future MCU films, acting as more of a background role that isn't always involved in the action.

Avengers: Infinity War is described by Marvel Studios as the culmination of everything in the Marvel Cinematic Universe since Iron Man in 2008. The movie is filming now under directors Anthony and Joe Russo, from a screenplay by Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely.

The expansive confirmed cast includes Robert Downey, Jr., Chris Evans, Chris Hemsworth, Mark Ruffalo, Jeremy Renner, Scarlett Johansson, Tom Holland, Elizabeth Olsen, Paul Bethany, Sebastian Stan, Benedict Cumberbatch, Benedict Wong, Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Karen Gillan, Vin Diesel, Dave Bautista, Bradley Cooper, Pom Klementieff, and Josh Brolin as the villain Thanos. Avengers: Infinity War and its as-yet-untitled sequel are filming back-to-back for a May 4, 2018 and May 3, 2019 release, respectively.
