Samuel L. Jackson On Whether Nick Fury Returns For Avengers: Infinity War

It's been awhile since fans have seen much of Nick Fury in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Back in 2012, the shadowy figure made a full-on entrance into the franchise with The Avengers after a slew of cameo bits. Samuel L. Jackson brought the no-nonsense SHIELD Director to life, but the character has been MIA since the second Avengers flick touched down. The spy was notably absent from Captain America: Civil War, and fans have wondered if Jackson would get to reprise his role in Avengers: Infinity War.

However, that may not be the case.

Recently, Jackson sat down for an interview with MTV during a promotional tour for Kong: Skull Island. It was there that the star was asked if he was excited to play Nick Fury again in Infinity War. However, Jackson was a bit confused by the question.

"Who says I am?" the actor asked. "I don't know. I'm asking you; I'm hoping you know maybe something I don't know. Am I in that movie?"

When the interviewer said she found the casting information on IMDB, Jackson smothered a laugh. "IMDB says I am? You believe them? No, don't believe IMDB," he said. "I haven't heard from them. I don't know what's going on yet."

Of course, fans are feeling a bit anxious about the statement. Many actors within the MCU have already signaled whether they're involved with the third Avengers film or not. Stars like Chris Pratt and Tom Holland have made their parts clear, so fans feel it's a bad sign if Jackson is still being kept in the dark.

In the past, the actor did tease that Fury would return to the MCU. He told Fandango he thought he was in "Avengers 3 and 4" despite being kept out of Captain America: Civil War. But, now, even that hopeful hint seems suspect.

Avengers: Infinity War is described by Marvel Studios as the culmination of everything in the Marvel Cinematic Universe since Iron Man in 2008. The movie is filming now under directors Anthony and Joe Russo, from a screenplay by Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely.

The expansive confirmed cast includes Robert Downey, Jr., Chris Evans, Chris Hemsworth, Mark Ruffalo, Jeremy Renner, Scarlett Johansson, Tom Holland, Elizabeth Olsen, Paul Bethany, Sebastian Stan, Benedict Cumberbatch, Benedict Wong, Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Karen Gillan, Vin Diesel, Dave Bautista, Bradley Cooper, Pom Klementieff, and Josh Brolin as the villain Thanos. Avengers: Infinity War and its as-yet-untitled sequel are filming back-to-back for a May 4, 2018 and May 3, 2019 release, respectively.
