Samuel L. Jackson On Whether He'll Appear in Captain Marvel or Black Panther

After having a prominent role in Captain America: The Winter Soldier, nearly escaping a HYDRA ambush with assistance from his high-tech vehicle and faking his own death as part of an elaborate and successful plan to expose the nefarious organization's infiltration of SHIELD, Nick Fury was relegated to a small role in one other Marvel film: Avengers: Age of Ultron. In that, he went to Hawkeye's farmhouse and gave Earth's Mightiest Heroes a much-needed pep talk, and during the Battle of Sokovia, he arrived in the Helicarrier and transported innocent citizens caught in the conflict to safety.

To avoid having him choose between Team Cap or Team Iron Man, Captain America: Civil War screenwriters intentionally left him out of the film. We know we'll see the one-eyed super-spy again in Avengers: Infinity War and its untitled follow-up film, but could Fury also appear in Captain Marvel — which will star his Kong: Skull Island co-star, Brie Larson — or Black Panther? And is Samuel L. Jackson interested in a Nick Fury solo film?

"Yeah, I'd love to do a Nick Fury movie," the 68-year-old actor told We Got This Covered while doing press for Kong: Skull Island, which arrives in theaters next month. "I'm always open and game. But they got Infinity Wars, two movies to do there, and after that there's Brie [Larson's] movie Captain Marvel, which maybe [Nick] will be part of. Also, I asked them, 'So you're doing Black Panther and the only black character in the Marvel Universe is not showing up?' And they're like, 'Nick Fury is not in Wakanda!' How can he not know the other black superhero on the planet? How the hell does that work? But they just said, 'No you're not in that one.'"

Next up for the Marvel Cinematic Universe is Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 on May 5, 2017. Spider-Man: Homecoming lands on July 7, 2017, followed by Thor: Ragnarok on November 3, 2017. After that Black Panther debuts on February 16, 2018, while Avengers: Infinity War hits theaters on May 4, 2018. Ant-Man and the Wasp is slated for July 6, 2018, and followed by Captain Marvel on March 8, 2019.
