Spider-Man: Homecoming To Web In A Massive Box Office Opening

06/15/2017 11:25 pm EDT

Leave it to Spider-Man to pick up the summer box office. The Marvel hero has a ways to go before he swings into cinemas, but Peter Parker is already eyeing its box office success. Wonder Woman may be the industry's reigning hero for now, but the wall-crawling hero hopes to take Diana's spot come July. According to initial tracking reports, Spider-Man: Homecoming is expected to pull in at least $100 million is opening weekend.

Spider-Man: Homecoming is slated to premiere in the U.S. on July 7, and hype for the hero is higher than ever. According to Deadline, industry experts began tracking the solo film's box office estimates today, and they were left with a staggering number. Current predictions report Spider-Man: Homecoming will earn between $90-100 in its opening weekend.

Of course, the standalone's box office estimates are subject to change. The film has yet to do any press screenings, so the public has not been made privy to reviews. If the film scores excellent publicity, then the joint Marvel-Sony venture could see its earnings skyrocket.

For Sony Pictures, the response to Spider-Man: Homecoming will be particularly important. The studio has already had two previous Spider-Man franchises, but its current run with the hero is being co-piloted with Marvel Studios. Tom Holland debuted his take on Peter Parker last year in Captain America: Civil War to rave reviews; Now, the actor must see if his character can stand alone without Earth's Mightiest Heroes to spot him.

As far as superhero films go, the low-end estimates for the Spider-Man movie already make it competitive. Guardians of the Galaxy debuted to a $94 million opening while Wonder Woman marched into a $103 million welcoming. The film's higher-end estimate is even more impressive as it ranks with films like Avengers: Age of Ultron and Captain America: Civil War.
