Spider-Man: Homecoming Will Not Include The Daily Bugle

Spider-Man: Homecoming is just a few months away from theatrical release and more details about the film are beginning to emerge. These details have revealed some things from the Marvel Comics universe that will unexpectedly be included in the first Marvel Cinematic Universe Spider-Man movie, such as Damage Control.

But the latest update reveals that there's at least one Marvel institution, one particularly close to Spider-Man, that will not be featured in Spider-Man: Homecoming and that's the Daily Bugle, the New York City tabloid within the Marvel Universe that employed Peter Parker as a photographer for his pictures of Spider-Man.

"We toyed with it for a while, but again, we didn't want to go down that road right away, and if we do do a Daily Bugle, we want to do it in a way that feels contemporary," producer Eric Hauserman Carroll said during a set visit. "Working in a newspaper while fighting crime and overachieving, it just felt like one of those things where like…maybe it's in his future? Maybe it's what he does in college or something like that. But for now, no."

The idea of Peter Parker working for the Daily Bugle is near and dear to the heart of many classic Spider-Man comic book fans. It's also something embedded in the memory of many who saw the original Spider-Man movie trilogy, in which the Bugle's hot-blooded editor-in-chief, J. Jonah Jameson, was played perfectly by JK Simmons.

But Marvel has struggled to update the idea for modern fans. The Daily Bugle is seen briefly in The Amazing Spider-Man movies but was not featured prominently. Daily Bugle reporters Ben Urich and Christine Everheart have appeared in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but always working for different outlets. Even in the Marvel Comics Universe, both Peter Parker and J. Jonah Jameson have left the Daily Bugle behind.

Carroll does leave hope that fans will see the Daily Bugle in future Spider-Man adventures in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, though if the Spider-Man: Homecoming sequels are all expected to take place during Peter's high school years than college may be a long time away.

Spider-Man: Homecoming opens in theaters July 7, 2017.
