Spider-Man: Homecoming Director Wants Blade For The Sequel

If it wasn't yet clear that Spider-Man: Homecoming director Jon Watts is a fan, try this line of logic -- that starts with one of Spidey's classic villains and builds to "let's have Blade in our sequel" -- on for size:

"Morbius is kind of cool!" Watts told We Got This Covered during a renent interview. "The tone of the character is pretty dark, but the vampire/Marvel Universe thing is pretty cool. Maybe we could get Blade to show up, too? That'd be neat."

Morbius, a sometimes-villain, sometimes-antihero known as "The Living Vampire," is no stranger to sequel rumors: back in 2013, he was one of a number of characters whose names appeared on a viral site for The Amazing Spider-Man 2.

In the comics, Blade gained his unique vampire powers while hunting Morbius with Spider-Man. After Morbius attacked the pair and bit Blade, the vampire hunter gained the speed and strength of a vampire without the weakness to the sun.

Months ago, the idea was that with Spider-Man now officially part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, "Marvel and Sony could really mix things up by using Morbius as the villain of an upcoming Spider-Man film and bringing back [Wesley] Snipes as Blade as a key supporting cast member" was already on our radar.

Blade's movie future has been up in the air for years, with constant rumors that something could be in development but no real movement and no comments from Marvel.

Warner Bros./New Line's Blade was the first major critical and financial success at the box office based on a Marvel Comics property. Released in 1998, it spawned two sequels and an army of imitators.
