Spider-Man: Homecoming Spider-Drone Review - You'll Feel Like Tony Stark Made It Just For You

Peter Parker's latest and greatest Spider-Man costume featured a number of enhancements, including a fully controllable Spider-Drone. Now fans can bring that slick little drone home with them.

In Spider-Man: Homecoming, the Spider-Drone gives Spidey increased reconnaissance abilities. Skyrocket delivers two versions of the Drone for home use, a regular version, and a streaming video version.

ComicBook.com had the chance to try out the standard drone, and while it doesn't have any of the video abilities, it still packs plenty of entertainment value.

First off the drone is visually stylish, featuring a gray, black, and red accent color scheme. It feels right out of Homecoming, especially with those Spider-like headlights, though thankfully it doesn't come with all the creepiness of real spiders.

The quick swap battery fits right underneath the main body, and if you plan on flying this for longer periods of time a second battery is recommended. For short stints the included one is fine, but even for those, you should plan on giving it a full juice before heading outside to get the most out of it, otherwise, it will be a rather short trip.

When you're flying the drone controls like a dream, especially in short range situations. It ended up being the company of choice on walks around the apartment complex, where there are a variety of trees, fences, and telephone poles to maneuver around. After some early fumbles (managed to get it stuck in a tree. A lesson in reading the instructions first kiddos) it was easy to just have it hovering around me, quickly adjusting on the fly as it were.

Landing Herbert (yep, totally named him) has a bit of a learning curve, as hitting the land button will do what it says but not necessarily with elegance. The best way to land is first commanding it to enter an aerial hover, and eventually, you'll be able to set it down with ease.

Speaking of the aforementioned tree collision, the Drone can take a beating. Aside from the tree branch, the first launches weren't so smooth, so rough landings on grass and carpet (had to fly it in the house a little right?) didn't phase it at all, though once it senses it can't fly it will turn off for safety.

In addition to the normal remote control features, like adjustable flight sensitivity, auto, and manual flight modes, and direct drive motors, the Spider-Drone features some cool fan service. If you've seen Homecoming, you know his suit's A.I. speaks to him, and a voice much like Emily Blunt's also voices the Drone.

The controller will say things depending on the options you choose. For instance, if you put it on the lowest sensitivity mode, it will say "Training Wheels mode Activated", just like in the film. It will also offer up other phrases as well, and the remote itself sports a clean Spider-Man themed design to go with it.

Overall the Spider-Drone provides plenty of entertainment for the money, and while it will take some getting used to (and possibly an extra battery or two), any Spider-Man: Homecoming fan would love to add this to their Marvel collection.

The Spider-Man: Homecoming Spider-Drone standard edition is available for $89.00 at Toys 'R' Us, Target, Walmart, and Amazon, while the Streaming Video Spider-Drone is available for $149.99 exclusively at Toys 'R' Us.
