Fox has released several new photos from the pilot episode of The Gifted which offer new looks at the series' X-Men characters - including new character Eclipse using his light powers.

While The Gifted does not take place in the same universe as 20th Century Fox's X-Men movies, it does take place in a timeline where the X-Men and the Brotherhood of Evil Mutants exist and are well known. One of the characters references both groups in the trailer above, though both have seemingly gone off the radar. Check out the gallery below featuring characters from The Gifted.

Action-adventure family drama The Gifted, from Marvel, tells the story of a suburban couple whose ordinary lives are rocked by the sudden discovery that their children possess mutant powers. Forced to go on the run from a hostile government, the family joins up with an underground network of mutants and must fight to survive.

The Gifted's family is made up of prosecutor Reed Strucker (Stephen Moyer), his wife Caitlin Strucker (Amy Acker), a nurse, and their two high school-age children, Lauren (Natalie Alyn Lind) and Andy (Percy Hynes White).

The underground mutant resistance includes several X-Men characters from the Marvel Comics universe, including John Proudstar, a.k.a. Thunderbird (Blair Redford), Lorna Dane, a.k.a. Polaris (Emma Dumont), and Clarice Fong, a.k.a. Blink (Jamie Chung). The series also introduces a brand new mutant character, Marcos Diaz, a.k.a. Eclipse (Sean Teale).

The Gifted is the second television series to spin out of 20th Century Fox's X-Men movies franchise. Legion debuted on FX last year to critical praise and earned a second season renewal. There were originally plans for a Hellfireseries, focusing on the villainous power brokers of the Hellfire Club, but when the series stalled out Matt Nix's The Gifted pitch was put into development instead.

The Gifted was given a 10-episode order by Fox and the 9 p.m. ET Monday time slot for its first season. The series will follow Lucifer, a series based on the comic book series published by DC Comics imprint Vertigo Comics.

The Gifted premieres on Oct. 2nd on Fox with a pilot episode directed by veteran X-Men movies director Bryan Singer and written by creator Matt Nix.
