X-Men Spin-Off 'The Gifted' Gets All-New Trailer

Hot off its panel at San Diego Comic-Con, the new X-Men spin-off series The Gifted got its first official trailer. You can check out the brand-new trailer above.

In addition to the first official trailer for the series, there was plenty more news that came out of the panel, some of which disappointed those in attendance.

Despite the recent success of the Marvel series Legion and, of course, the successful series of X-Men movies, The Gifted will not be crossing over into those universes anytime soon, or, ever at all.

Showrunner Matt Nix elaborated, saying, "One of the great favors that Days of Future Past did for all of us is establish many streams. Guess that one answer is that this is one of those many streams."

The Gifted will take place in such a drastically different universe from what audiences might know, he claims the X-Men don't even exist in the show's timeline.

"Right now one of the things that comes out in the show is the X-Men are gone," Nix elaborated. "Why are they gone? That's a thing in the show. It's not just that they're too expensive for television — though that may be related."

A fan at the panel still asked producer Lauren Shuller Donner directly if Gifted could crossover with Legion, to which she replied, "I'm sorry to break your heart. No, but thank you for wanting it."

The Gifted premieres on Oct. 2 on Fox with a pilot episode directed by veteran X-Men movies director Bryan Singer.

The Gifted tells the emotional story of a suburban couple whose ordinary lives are rocked by the sudden discovery that their children possess mutant powers. Forced to go on the run from a hostile government, the family seeks help from an underground network of mutants and must fight to survive.

Set within the "X-Men" universe, the series stars Stephen Moyer (SHOTS FIRED, "True Blood"), Amy Acker ("Person of Interest"), Natalie Alyn Lind (GOTHAM) and Percy Hynes White ("Night at the Museum 3") as the STRUCKER family. Also featured in the series are Sean Teale ("Reign") as ECLIPSE/MARCOS DIAZ; Jamie Chung (GOTHAM) as BLINK/CLARICE FERGUSON; Emma Dumont ("Aquarius") as POLARIS/LORNA DANE; Blair Redford ("Satisfaction") as THUNDERBIRD/JOHN PROUDSTAR; and Coby Bell ("Burn Notice") as Sentinel Services Agent JACE TURNER. The series is written by Matt Nix ("Burn Notice"), directed by Bryan Singer (the "X-Men" franchise") and executive-produced by Nix, Singer, Lauren Shuler Donner and Simon Kinberg ("X-Men: Apocalypse," "X-Men: Days of Future Past") and Marvel's Jeph Loeb and Jim Chory.
