'The Mighty Thor' Is The Perfect HeroClix Jumping On Point

WizKids Games has released Marvel HeroClix: The Mighty Thor into stores and the set represents the best gateway in years for new players to enter the game.

Coinciding with the release of The Mighty Thor, WizKids performed a comprehensive update to the rules of HeroClix making the gameplay mechanics and language more accessible to new players.

Everything that a new player needs to get started with HeroClix is included in the Marvel HeroClix: The Mighty Thor Starter Set. Along with six HeroClix figures, the set includes the new HeroClix rulebook and an updated Powers and Abilities Card (think of it as a cheat sheet for how to use your HeroClix characters' super powers).

The six figures based on the Avengers Prime comic book storyline. There's Thor, of course, and his treacherous brother Loki, the Greek demigod and original superhero Hercules, Captain America and Iron Man - both decked in sword and sandals style and weaponry - and the Incredible Hulk.

There's also an Asgardian Shield, introducing new players to new equipment called weapons that help enhance HeroClix characters. The Asgardian Shield, in particular, is meant to be paired with The Mighty Thor Starter Set's Captain America.

The Starter Set comes with two basic dice, but if players want something more thematic they can pick up the Marvel HeroClix: The Mighty Thor Dice & Token Pack. This pack contains two brightly colored custom dice featuring Mjolnir on the number six side. It also includes six tokens used for keeping track of character actions during play. One side of each token has The Mighty Thor logo, and the other has artwork of one of six different Thors: classic Thor, Odinson, Beta Ray Bill, Jane Foster, Eric Masterson, and Groot Thor.

Once fans have gotten a taste, they'll likely want to expand their collection. That's where the Marvel HeroClix: The Mighty Thor booster packs come in. The full The Mighty Thor set includes practically every version of Thor from Marvel Comics history, plus various other Asgardian heroes and villains, the Eternals, the Wrecking Crew, and more.

In addition to regular boosters, Marvel HeroClix: The Mighty Thor set also has Super Boosters. These boosters include one new equipment piece and one colossal-sized figure that can be played at full points as a normal figure or incredibly cheaply as a Colossal Retaliator.
