Marvel Studios has released a new look at Chris Hemsworth as Thor in Thor: Ragnarok.

The new image reveals a new look at Thor's drastically shorter hair in Thor: Ragnarok. His previously long, flowing locks were cut down when he was delivered to the Gamemaster's arena.

"It was nice not to have to sit in the makeup chair for that hour each morning," Chris Hemsworth said of the new haircut when it was first revealed. "It felt like a rebirth for me as the actor but also as the character."

It is more than just convenience and fashion that drives this new look for Marvel's God of Thunder. It is symbolic of the very new situation he finds himself in in Thor: Ragnarok.

"[Sakaar is] basically where every wormhole across the universe dumps out its trash, so you get people from all walks of life with all sorts of incredible abilities and powers," Hemsworth explains. "No one cares what prince or king Thor may have been in another world. Also, his strength is pretty easily matched with those he finds himself amongst."

Sakaar is a planet straight out of "Planet Hulk," one of the major Marvel Comics inspirations for Thor: Ragnarok. That story saw Hulk shot across the universe and forced to fight in the gladiatorial arena on an alien planet. Thor has much the same experience in Thor: Ragnarok, only Hulk is his opponent in the arena.

In Thor: Ragnarok currently a 4.16 out of 5 ComicBook.com User Anticipation Rating, making it the fifth most anticipated upcoming comic book movie among ComicBook.com readers. How excited are you for Thor: Ragnarok? Let us know by giving it your own anticipation rating below.

In Marvel Studio's Thor Ragnarok, Thor is imprisoned on the other side of the universe without his mighty hammer and finds himself in a race against time to get back to Asgard to stop Ragnarok—the destruction of his homeworld and the end of Asgardian civilization—at the hands of an all-powerful new threat, the ruthless Hela. But first he must survive a deadly gladiatorial contest that pits him against his former ally and fellow Avenger—the Incredible Hulk!

Thor Ragnarok is directed by Taika Waititi from a screenplay by Eric Pearson, and stars Chris Hemsworth, Tom Hiddleston, Cate Blanchett, Idris Elba, Jeff Goldblum, Tessa Thompson, Karl Urban, Mark Ruffalo and Anthony Hopkins.
