Tom Hiddleston Says There's A Reason For Thor's Haircut

Fans were understandably surprised to see Chris Hemsworth without his trademark long hair in Thor: Ragnarok, something that has been a staple during his time in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. As with everything Marvel Studios does, there is a hidden purpose to it, something fell co-star Tom Hiddleston recently teased.

The Loki actor recently spoke to Entertainment Tonight about his debuting film Kong: Skull Island, but he obliged a question or two about Thor: Ragnarok (which currently holds a 4.18 on ComicBook.com's anticipation rankings). When asked if he was keeping his iconic Loki hairstyle, Hiddleston said: "Yes, Loki still has his long black locks." He also teased a deeper meaning to Thor's new look, saying "What I love about it is that there's actually a reason for that haircut," Hiddleston teased. "I'm excited for audiences to find out."

Thor's hairstyle isn't the only change fans spotted in the new photos, as Thor can also be seen without his trademark weapon, Mjolnir. In its place is two swords, something he will undoubtedly use while stranded on the planet Sakaar. You can view the official description for the film below.

Thor: Ragnarok is directed by Taika Waititi with a screenplay by Eric Pearson. The film stars Chris Hemsworth as Thor and Tom Hiddleston reprising his role as Loki. They are joined by Cate Blanchett (Hela), Idris Elba (Heimdall), Jeff Goldblum (Grandmaster), Tessa Thompson (Valkyrie), Karl Urban (Skurge), Anthony Hopkins (Odin), Sam Neill, Ray Stevenson (Volstagg), Tadanobu Asano (Hogun), Mark Ruffalo (Bruce Banner/Hulk), and Benedict Cumberbatch (Dr. Stephen Strange).

Next up for Marvel is Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 on May 5, 2017. Spider-Man: Homecoming lands on July 7, 2017, followed by Thor: Ragnarok on November 3, 2017. After that Black Panther debuts on February 16, 2018, while Avengers: Infinity War hits theaters on May 4, 2018. Ant-Man and the Wasp is slated for July 6, 2018, followed by Captain Marvel on March 8, 2019.
