Wolverine 3: First Look At Caliban In Logan Trailer Revealed

Hidden in the first trailer for Logan was the first look at Stephen Merchant as Caliban in the film. Director James Mangold had previously shared in image of the new character on Twitter which was taken outside of the film's content.

Caliban was introduced to the Marvel Universe as one of the Morlocks, the sewer-dwelling tribe of mutants who have had a long-standing relationship with the X-Men. Caliban has the mutant ability to track other mutants and to channel the emotions of those around him to increase his own physical strength. He was eventually made a Horseman of Apocalypse but he returned to the X-Men fold during the Messiah CompleX event, where he died in the line of battle.

In the new film, Caliban assists Logan in the year 2029, when the rest of the mutants have gone. The two are working to care for Xavier, who in the amount of time which has passed since the post-credits of X-Men: Days of Future Past, has developed an inability to control his powers and risks endangering others. In the lThe first official look at Merchant's character in the film came at the 1:26 mark of the first trailer which appears to be a moment where Charles is having a lapse in control.

In the year 2029, a weary Logan cares for an ailing Professor X in a hide out on the Mexican border. But Logan's attempts to hide from the world and his legacy are up-ended when a young mutant arrives, being pursued by dark forces.

Logan stars Hugh Jackman (Logan), Boyd Holbrook (Donald Pierce), Patrick Stewart (Charles Xavier), Dafne Keen (Laura Kinney/X-23), Doris Morgado (Maria), Stephen Merchant (Caliban), Elizabeth Rodriguez (Gabriela), and Richard E. Grant (Dr. Zander Rice). James Mangold is directing and helped on the screenplay along with Scott Frank and Michael Green.
