X-Men: Apocalypse's Alexandra Shipp Reached Out To Halle Berry But Didn't Get A Response

Alexandra Shipp will step into the shoes of the young mutant weather goddess Storm in X-Men: Apocalypse, and she's following in some pretty big footsteps. Oscar-winning actress Halle Berry played the adult Ororo Munroe in X-Men, X2: X-Men United, and X-Men: The Last Stand, and reprised the role again for X-Men: Days of Future Past.

In preparation for taking over the role, Shipp says she nearly fell into the trap of simply trying to mimic what Berry did with her performance. "I spent the first month trying to imitate Halle Berry, for a minute," Shipp told Yahoo Movies. "Because I was like, how am I going to live up to Halle Berry? I was like, 'All right, hold on. People aren't going to want to see you be Halle Berry. Otherwise they're going to want Halle, you know? You got to find your own Storm. You got to find who you think Storm is in these moments and in this time in her life.'"

Shipp even tried to reach out to Berry for some tips, but the actress never got back to her. "I reached out to her," Shipp said. "You know, Halle's got her show and her family and stuff. So I understand, she's got her thing going on. Also, I think that my email might have scared her because it was a lot of word vomit. Like, 'Oh, my God, I love you, you're so amazing. What does your hair smell like? What perfume do you wear? If you had a favorite deodorant scent, what would it be?'"

Since the dawn of civilization, he was worshiped as a god. Apocalypse, the first and most powerful mutant from Marvel's X-Men universe, amassed the powers of many other mutants, becoming immortal and invincible. Upon awakening after thousands of years, he is disillusioned with the world as he finds it and recruits a team of powerful mutants, including a disheartened Magneto (Michael Fassbender), to cleanse mankind and create a new world order, over which he will reign. As the fate of the Earth hangs in the balance, Raven (Jennifer Lawrence) with the help of Professor X (James McAvoy) must lead a team of young X-Men to stop their greatest nemesis and save mankind from complete destruction.
