X-Men: Gifted TV Series Reveals First Production Image

Fox's X-Men output seems to be on a roll lately. Despite the misstep with X-Men: Apocalypse, the studio has had its hand in some major successes with Deadpool, Logan, and their first television offering Legion.

They hope to continue that magic with their new show X-Men: Gifted, starting with a pilot directed by franchise mainstay Bryan Singer.

And now that production on the show is underway, producer Lauren Shuler Donner shared the first image of the new show.

Donner has served as producer on X-Men related productions since the first film came out nearly 17 years ago. She collaborated with Singer, who directed the first two X-Men movies as well as Days of Future Past and Apocalypse.

Singer himself has had success with television, serving as executive producer while also directing a couple of episodes of the show House.

Matt Nix is serving as showrunner on the series, who previously helmed the show Burn Notice on USA.

Amy Acker appears to be the star of this particular scene taking place in a car. Acker will be featured alongside Stephen Moyer of True Blood fame, playing the parents of a mutant whose abilities recently manifested, forcing the family to go on the run from government forces.

Jamie Chung will also star as Blink, Emma Dumont as Polaris, and Blair Redford as Thunderbird, rounding out the cast with some familiar X-Men characters.

The show will hopefully air on Fox, but we likely won't find out if it's picked up for a full season order for some time.

The X-Men TV pilot follows Kate and Reed Stewart, two human parents who discover that their children are mutants. The family is forced to go on the run from an anti-mutant government and eventually meet up with an underground mutant resistance movement led by a mutant called Sam. The government has the mutant-hunting robots called Sentinels, which were previously seen in X-Men: Days of Future Past, at its disposal. Other X-Men from the Marvel Comics universe, including Polaris and Blink, are expected to appear.

Gifted is currently in pre-production and was developed by Matt Nix, who wrote the pilot episode. X-Men movies veteran Bryan Singer will direct. Nix and Singer, along with Lauren Shuler Donner, Simon Kinberg, Jim Chory, and Jeph Loeb will all serve as executive producers. The pilot stars Redford, Stephen Moyer, Amy Acker, Jamie Chung, Sean Teale, Natalie Alyn Lind, Emma Dumont, Percy Hynes White, and Coby Bell.

Gifted will be the second X-Men television project to enter production, following the FX drama Legion, which is currently in its first season.
