X-Men Gold #2 Debuts A New Fastball Special

The Fastball Special is a beloved maneuver the X-Men employ from time to time, which typically involves one member of the team launching another member into the air toward a specific target. Over the years there have been a few versions of this, but a brand new style of Fastball Special made its debut in X-Men: Gold #2.

The X-Men Gold squad, consisting of members Kitty Pryde (leader), Storm, Colossus, Nightcrawler, Prestige (Rachel Grey), and Old Man Logan, met the new Brotherhood of Evil Mutants at the end of the last issue. The group is threatening to take out a meeting of the United Nations, and early in the fight, Logan is compromised. Kitty has to employ some new tactics to stall for time. Colossus, Prestige, and Storm are a bit further away from the fight when Kitty tells the team "I need a T.F.S. stat." When Masque asks "what's a T.F.S. dear?" a harpooning Colossus interrupts the proceedings, saying "Telekinetic Fastball Special".

Prestige made up the distance by using her telekinetic abilities to hurl Colossus at the Brotherhood, taking out Masque, Avalanche, and Magma all at once. It's a pretty effective maneuver and hopefully, one fans will continue to see.

Colossus is used to being on the other end of this, as he has hurled Wolverine into a number of brawls this way. One particular time the situation was reversed, as Wolverine launched Colossus, but needed the moon's gravity situation to aid him. You can view the new Fastball Special in the gallery.

It's one of the many ways this group has evolved under the leadership of Kitty Pryde. Kitty impressed many in X-Men Gold #1 when she managed to save countless civilians by phasing a falling building. She didn't just phase part of it mind you, she phased the entire skyscraper. The team seems to have gelled well, and despite the crazy rent (they are in central park these days) things seem to be looking up.
