X-Men: The Gifted Behind-The-Scenes Photo Gives New Look At Polaris

Over at Fox, the network is gearing up for another packed X-Men premiere. Following the success of Legion, Fox will soon debut another X-Men show which follows a group of outcasted mutant running from government oversight. Last week, the first trailer for The Gifted was released, giving fans a close-up look at characters like Blink. Now, one actress has uploaded a few behind-the-scenes photos online, and the still give fans a good look at the mutant Polaris.

Over on Instagram, Emma Dumont posted a couple of photos from the set of The Gifted. In the first image, fans can see the character's pale profile as she stares down towards the floor. With her hair slicked down, Lorna Dane has a certain dark aesthetic which fits her comic book character. And, in a now-deleted image, fans were able to confirm the character has one canon trait in common with her comic counterpart.

The deleted picture was posted by Dumont and it showed the girl taking a picture with Jamie Chung. With their backs facing the cameras, the girls are seen holding each other close. "Mutant sisters" stands as the sweet photo's caption, but fans were more interested in Dumont's hair. The brightly lit photo confirmed parts of the actress' hair have been dyed green, lending itself to Polaris and her bright locks.

If you are not familiar with Polaris, then you can catch up on her interesting X-Men history. The character debuted back in October 1968 in X-Men #49. Arnold Drake, Don Heck, Werner Roth, and Jim Steranko were the creative minds behind the character's creation. In the Marvel Universe, Polaris is the biological daughter of Magneto. The mutant is able to control magnetism much like Magneto, but her heritage wasn't confirmed until 2003 with Uncanny X-Men #431. In the comics, Polaris is also considered to be the de facto love interest of Havok/Alex Summer.

"The Gifted tells the story of a suburban couple whose ordinary lives are rocked by the sudden discovery that their children possess mutant powers.

Reed (Stephen Moyer, Shots Fired, True Blood) and Caitlin (Amy Acker, Person of Interest, Angel) Strucker are typical middle-class parents dealing with the realities of raising a family. However, when their teenage kids, Lauren (Natalie Alyn Lind, Gotham) and ANDY (Percy Hynes White, Night at the Museum 3), are involved in an incident at their high school which reveals they are mutants, Reed and Caitlin do all in their power to protect their children. Forced to go on the run, the Struckers must leave behind their old lives to flee from a relentless government agency that tracks down mutants, the Sentinel Services, which includes Agent Jace Turner (Coby Bell, Burn Notice). Complicating matters further is the fact that Reed is a prosecutor in the district attorney's office tasked with going after mutants.

Desperate and running low on options, the family's only choice is to contact an underground network that helps mutants in trouble. The mutants in the network – Eclipse / Marcos Diaz (Sean Teale, Reign), Blink / Clarice Fong (Jamie Chung, Gotham), Polaris / Lorna Dane (Emma Dumont, Aquarius) and Thunderbird / John Proudstar (Blair Redford, Satisfaction) – are dealing with their own issues. With one of their members in prison and their team possibly compromised, they face an uncertain future in a world that looks increasingly dangerous for mutants.
