Batman V. Superman Reportedly Sitting Out The Super Bowl

While Deadpool, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows, and Bourne 5 are all getting some air time during Super Bowl 50, it seems that Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice (are these movies competing in a secret long title competition?) will be sitting on the sidelines. Warner Bros, according to THR, has not put up the $5 million necessary for thirty seconds of ad time on CBS's broadcast of the NFL championship between the Denver Broncos and Carolina Panthers.
That might not keep BvS entirely off football watchers' TVs on Sunday, February 7, though. Warner Bros. and BvS director Zack Snyder are teamed with Doritos on their final Super Bowl Commercial campaign, in which a fan-submitted Doritos commercial will air during the game. The winner will work with Warner Bros. on an upcoming DC Comics-based film and receive $1 million prize. It may only be a bit of branding there, but we're likely to see something from the March 25, 2016 release during that spot.
With regularly-airing TV spots and an international campaign just starting to move in full force, it's not like Batman v Superman is hurting for airtime. Still, with an audience of over 110 million and competition from Fox, Universal, Paramount, and Disney all confirmed during the broadcast, it's somewhat surprising to see WB largely sit the game out.
