Marvel Studios has released a new trailer for its upcoming Captain America: Civil War with today's Super Bowl 50.
The film is based on a 2006 crossover story from Marvel Comics which pitted Captain America against Iron Man in a conflict where the larger question was how much freedom Marvel's superheroes should be expected to give up for national security. In the comics, the story concluded with Captain America in custody, and the nextCaptain America story arc started with his assassination on the way to trial.
Captain America: Civil War picks up where Avengers: Age of Ultron left off, as Steve Rogers leads the new team of Avengers in their continued efforts to safeguard humanity. After another international incident involving the Avengers results in collateral damage, political pressure mounts to install a system of accountability and a governing body to determine when to enlist the services of the team. The new status quo fractures the Avengers while they try to protect the world from a new and nefarious villain.
Captain America: Civil War hits theaters May 6, 2016.
