Captain America: Civil War Trailer Recreates Classic Avengers Moment

There's a lot to love about the latest Captain America: Civil War trailer, including the first look at Spider-Man. Another is the recreation of a classic moment from Avengers history involving two members of Team Captain America, Hawkeye and Ant-Man.

In the trailer we see Hawkeye fire an arrow into the sky. The arrow explodes out and a moment later we see a close up of one of the arrowheads. On it is Ant-Man, who is hurtling towards Iron Man.

That very moment of Ant-Man riding one of Hawkeye's arrows was immortalized on the cover of Avengers #223, created by Ed Hannigan and Klaus Janson. The cover has Hawkeye pointing an arrow at the reader, and Scott Lang lying flat across the arrowhead. The moment actually occurs as part of the issue's story, written by David Michelinie and drawn Greg LaRocque, which involves Hawkeye and Ant-Man teaming up against Taskmaster.

Marvel's Captain America: Civil War finds Steve Rogers leading the newly formed team of Avengers in their continued efforts to safeguard humanity. But after another incident involving the Avengers results in collateral damage, political pressure mounts to install a system of accountability, headed by a governing body to oversee and direct the team. The new status quo fractures the Avengers, resulting in two camps—one led by Steve Rogers and his desire for the Avengers to remain free to defend humanity without government interference, and the other following Tony Stark's surprising decision to support government oversight and accountability.
