As projected already, Fox's Deadpool took home the box office crown in North America this weekend, earning more than $30 million for the third consecutive weekend and beating out a crowd of new releases.
Deadpool earned $31.5 million this weekend, passing The Matrix Reloaded on the list of all-time highest-grossing R-rated movies, according to Exhibitor Relations.
Gods of Egypt, which cost about $150 million to make, earned less than half of what Deadpool did this weekend, with a $14 million opening that will position it as an early candidate for the biggest flop of the year.
Triple 9, a modestly-budgeted drama about police corruption featuring Captain America's Anthony Mackie, debuted out of the top five, while another new released -- Eddie the Eagle with X-Men franchise star Hugh Jackman and Kingsman: The Secret Service's Taron Edgerton -- debuted in fifth with $6.3 million.
Holdover Kung Fu Panda 3 earned $9 million to take the #3 spot, with Risen at #4 with $7 million.
