Did the Transformers: The Last Knight Trailer Reveal Unicron?

Something is definitely not right with Optimus Prime in the latest trailer for Transformers: The Last Knight, which Michael Bay debuted ahead of Super Bowl LI.

And there's been quite a bit of suspicion of just what -- or who -- has gotten into the Autobot leader. A lot of that speculation has centered on the idea of an outside force -- most popularly the "Creators" he went into space to chase after at the end of Transformers: Age of Extinction -- taking him over in some way (hence the change in his eye color from blue to purple when he's acting against Bumblebee).

As we detailed just a little while ago, one popular theory is that the "possession" is by Unicron, essentially a god of destruction in Transformers lore and twin brother to Primus, who created the Transformers (and built an army of Primes, of which Optimus is the last, to battle Unicron).

What counts against that theory is that ever since the third movie in the series, every Transformers film has pretty much been Unicron Rumor Central prior to release.

What counts for it? Well, there's a lot of Unicron-like visuals in the trailers for this film...including a visual that's kind of easy to miss if you haven't watched Transformers: The Movie about a thousand times.

That's the image above, in which some kind of Transformers-related machinery seems to be digging up a swath of real estate on...Cybertron? The Moon? Somewhere.

In any event, the way it just plows through earth, rock, and the machinery abandoned on the planet's surface felt quite a bit like the image above, where Unicron attacked destroyed the world of Lithone.
