Elizabeth Banks has signed on to play the villainess Rita Repulsa in the upcoming Power Rangers reboot movie.
Repulsa is the original and arguably best known arch villainess from the long running kids' action program. The villain is an alien ruler with plans for the planet Earth.
The Power Rangers reboot is being handled by Lionsgate. The studio also produced The Hunger Games movie, in which Banks played Effie Trinket.
The Power Rangers reboot was written by X-Men: First Class writers Ashley Miller and Zack Stentz. Dean Israelite will direct.
Banks' Rita will do battle with a team of Power Rangers played by relative newcomers: RJ Cyler, Becky G, Ludy Lin, Naomi Scott, and Dacre Montgomery.
