Everything Wrong with The Legend of Tarzan

Before he was hanging around with Harley Quinn, The Legend of Tarzan actor Casper Crump was menacing the cast of DC's Legends of Tomorrow last season -- and just in time for that show's midseason finale this year, the good folks over at CinemaSins have taken aim at his latest ape-filled opus.

"Here's a live-action Tarzan sequel/reboot/thing that has likable actors in it but still manages to be somewhere between bad and just boring," the video's YouTube description accurately says.

The film stars Alexander Skarsgård, Samuel L. Jackson, Margot Robbie, Djimon Hounsou, John Hurt, Jim Broadbent, and Christoph Waltz.

It has been years since the man once known as Tarzan (Skarsgård) left the jungles of Africa behind for a gentrified life as John Clayton, Lord Greystoke, with his beloved wife, Jane (Robbie) at his side. Now, he has been invited back to the Congo to serve as a trade emissary of Parliament, unaware that he is a pawn in a deadly convergence of greed and revenge, masterminded by the Belgian, Leon Rom (Waltz). But those behind the murderous plot have no idea what they are about to unleash.

The film hit theaters this summer to little fanfare and decent-but-unenthusiastic reviews. It probably wasn't helped by being in competition with The Jungle Book, which feels similar enough in concept to draw comparisons but obviously was operating on a whole other level, and really connected with audiences.

The Legend of Tarzan is currently available on Blu-ray and DVD, and it's available at a lower price point as part of December's digital movie sale at Vudu.
