Ghostbusters Director Regrets Feeding Internet Trolls

It's safe to say that few franchises have had a resurgence quite like the Ghostbusters franchise. After being revived from a long hiatus, an all-female reboot of Ghostbusters was released last year. While critics praised the film, a small yet vocal group of fans bashed the 'bogus' movie. The controversy only continued to escalate as cast and crew members of Ghostbusters clashed with outraged fans, including the film's director, Paul Feig.

So with the film nearing its first anniversary, has Feig's opinion of the whole experience changed in hindsight? Well, yes and no.

While speaking on a recent panel with Saturday Night Live's Michael Che during the Tribeca Film Festival, Feig revealed one thing that the film has changed for him - his attitude towards the Internet.

"Before Ghostbusters, I had this sort of lovely relationships with the Internet," Feig explained. If I could go back in the time machine, I just wouldn't read it ... The biggest mistake I made was I took on one of the trolls."

Nevertheless, Feig seems to remain a champion for the film, saying that he's had conversations with members of the film's audience that have made the Internet drama worthwhile.

"[Women tell me] 'If I had this movie when I was a kid, I would have been an engineer right now.'"

So could Feig revisit the franchise again someday? As of right now, that's unclear. While the director of The Heat and Bridesmaids has expressed his desire to do a live-action Ghostbusters sequel, the only current plans seem to be for animated follow-ups to the franchise.
