'Deadpool' Alum Ed Skrein Joins 'Hellboy' Reboot

The cast of the Hellboy reboot is continuing to grow - and a Deadpool alum is the latest to join the project.

Ed Skrein (Game of Thrones, The Transported Refueled) is currently in negotiations to appear in Hellboy, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Comic book fans will best recognize Skrein from his role as Francis/Ajax, the main villain in 2016's Deadpool.

Skrein is set to play Major Ben Daimio, described as "a rugged military member of the Bureau for Paranormal Research and Defense who, due to a supernatural encounter, can turn into a jaguar when angered or in pain."

The supporting character has had several appearances in Hellboy comics, first appearing in 2004's B.P.R.D.: The Dead #1. He played a significant role in vanquishing many of the Hellboy universe's threats, including the War on Frogs.

It is unknown exactly what significance he will have in the Hellboy reboot, as he didn't really interact directly with the titular character in the comics.

The Hellboy reboot will star Stranger Things' David Harbour in the title role. Ian McShane will play Hellboy's adoptive father, while Milla Jovovich will play the once-titular role of the Blood Queen.

The new Hellboy film will be a total reboot that is not connected to the previous two films, Hellboy and Hellboy II: The Golden Army. Guillermo del Toro, the director of those previous films, and star Ron Perlman are not involved. Both del Toro and Perlman had been campaigning to shoot a third Hellboy movie, but those negotiations reportedly fell through when del Toro and the Producers could not reach a compromise over the sequel's budget.
