Jurassic World 2 Producer Confirms Rexy The T-Rex Is Returning

One of the standout moments from the original Jurassic World was the surprise return of Rexy, who longtime fans of the franchise will know as the unstoppable Tyrannosaurus Rex of the series. In a moment of desperation, Claire released the creature to stop the newest creation the Indominus Rex, and it looks like that isn't the last time fans will see her.

Responding to a question about Rexy and whether she would be featured again in the sequel (via SlashFilm), producer Colin Trevorrow said "Confirmed. Tell her when she wakes up." Trevorrow described the evolution of Rexy, saying "The T-Rex that's in the film is the T-Rex from the original Jurassic Park and she is 22 years older. But, she's not limping around. … We took the original design and obviously, technology has changed. So, it's going to move a little bit differently, but it'll move differently because it's older. And we're giving her some scars and we're tightening her skin. So, she has that feeling of, like, an older Burt Lancaster. And this movie is her Unforgiven."

Aside from a returning cast that includes Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard, not much else is known about Jurassic World 2, including where the movie takes place. It could focus again on the island, or switch things up with a new locale. Either way, the good news is that Rexy will be along for the ride, something most fans can certainly get behind.

Jurassic World 2 is being directed by J.A. Bayona and stars Bryce Dallas Howard (Claire), Chris Pratt (Owen), Rafe Spall, BD Wong (Dr. Henry Wu), Toby Jones, and Justice Smith. The film is being produced by Belen Atienza, Patrick Crowley, and Frank Marshall, with Steven Spielberg, Colin Trevorrow, and Thomas Tull serving as executive producers.

In Jurassic World, located off the coast of Costa Rica, the Jurassic World luxury resort provides a habitat for an array of genetically engineered dinosaurs, including the vicious and intelligent Indominus rex. When the massive creature escapes, it sets off a chain reaction that causes the other dinos to run amok. Now, it's up to a former military man and animal expert (Chris Pratt) to use his special skills to save two young boys and the rest of the guests from an all-out, prehistoric assault.

Jurassic World 2 is scheduled for release on June 22, 2018.
