When the first shots of Oscar Isaac as the titular villain of X-Men: Apocalypse hit the Internet, some fans were immediately critical, drawing comparisons between Apocalypse and the Mighty Moirphin' Power Rangers: The Movie villain Ivan Ooze.

In the pages of Empire, director Bryan Singer defended the costume, saying it stays true to the design from the comics.

"He'll be very similar to images in the comic," Singer says. "There's obviously something very futuristic and yet ancient to the design of both his costume and his physicality."

The magazine also featured new images of the villain and other characters from the film, seen in the gallery below. The image of Apocalypse is almost identical to the one previously released, but may have been color corrected to tone down his purple hue.

There's also another shot of Michael Fassbender as Magneto, a shot of Sophie Turner as Jean and Tye Sheridan as Cyclops, and another featuring Rose Byrne as Moira MacTaggert, Lucas Till as Havok, Jennifer Lawrence as Mystique, and Nicholas Hoult as Beast in the X-Mansion's subbasement. Fans may notice the hole and burn marks on Havok's chest in that last photo, suggesting the use of one his energy blasts.

Check out when X-Men: Apocalypse and other movies are coming out in ComicBook.com's Movie Release Schedule.
