Power Rangers Announces Blu-ray, DVD Release Date

Lionsgate's Power Rangers reboot seems to be wrapping up its theatrical run, and soon fans will be able to watch the action packed project on their home theaters.

Lionsgate Home Entertainment has announced the release date for Power Rangers (via ComicBookMovie) on 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray and regular Blu-ray. The film will hit those formats on June 27, while digital HD will get the film on June 13. There's not information on special features for the movie, but odds are it will include the usual collection of deleted scenes, featurettes, and gag reels. Hopefully, it will also include some details about future installments, as there are 6 other films being considered.

That will also hinge on if the studio thinks it can bring in a bigger audience for the sequel. The heavily hyped film cost $100 million to make, and the studio easily spent double that trying to advertise it. Thus far it has only made $84 million domestically, with a worldwide total of $134 million. Now, the film hasn't yet opened in China (opens on May 12), so that will improve some, but it is doubtful that it jettisons it to profitability. Time will tell if the series gets another go-round.

The movie ranked well with fans of the franchise, but there were some critiques amongst the community. That includes Walter Jones, who previously played Zack Taylor. He said" "I was a little disappointed that they changed the characters around a little bit because I wanted Zach to be with his kido because Hip Hop Kido was a really important element of who I was on Power Rangers." Jones said. "I think if they would have added that then there could have been some parkour and there could have been so many other elements to that character that it would have been awesome."

"Saban's Power Rangers follows five ordinary high school kids who must become something extraordinary when they learn that their small town of Angel Grove – and the world – is on the verge of being obliterated by an alien threat. Chosen by destiny, our heroes quickly discover that they are the only ones who can save the planet. But to do so they will have to overcome their real-life issues and band together as the Power Rangers before it is too late."

Power Rangers stars Bryan Cranston (Zordon), Elizabeth Banks (Rita Repulsa), Naomi Scott (Kimberly/Pink Ranger), David Denman (Sam Scott), Becky G. (Trini/Yellow Ranger), Sarah Grey (Amanda), RJ Cyler (Billy Cranston/Blue Ranger), Emily Maddison (Rebecca), Ludi Lin (Zack Taylor/Black Ranger), and Dacre Montgomery (Jason Lee Scott/Red Ranger).

Power Rangers is in theaters now.
