Robert Kirkman's Invincible Movie In The Works With Seth Rogen, Evan Goldberg

Another Robert Kirkman creation is getting set to transition into live-action. Universal Pictures has tapped Seth Rogan and Evan Goldberg to adapt Kirkman's superhero saga Invincible for the big screen.

Rogen and Goldberg will write, direct, and produce the film, with Kirkman also on board to produce through his shingle, Skybound Entertainment.

Kirkman debuted Invincible, with artist Cory Walker, in 2003, the same year that The Walking Dead debut. Inspired by his love of Spider-Man, Invincible is Kirkman's attempt at telling the story of a young superhero coming of age.

Skybound Entertainment will also be represented on the project via David Alpert, Bryan Furst, and Sean Furst. The project going to Universal Pictures is part of an already in-place first-look deal between the studio and Skybound. Jame Weaver of Rogen and Goldberg's banner, Point Grey, will also produce.

Invincible follows Mark Grayson, a normal high school student in all ways except that his father is Omni-Man, the world's most powerful superhero. Mark's life changes forever when he develops superpowers of his own and becomes the superhero Invincible. The story keeps up with Mark as he tries to follow in his father's footsteps, dealing themes of family, legacy, what it means to be a hero, and growing up.

Invincible has so far run for 133 issues, with Kirkman, Walker, and artist Ryan Ottley as the creative forces. The series will end with Incincible #144.

"For nearly a decade I've had to endure the 'what about Invincible?' question as fans have watched The Walking Dead grow into the multi-media monstrosity it has become over the years," Kirkman told The Hollywood Reporter. "The answer was always that we were waiting for the right team to partner with. That team has arrived! The esteemed misters Goldberg and Rogen have proven themselves to be top-notch directors with a keen collective eye for stunning visuals after slumming it by writing hit after juggernaut hit.

"Invincible's surprising, edgy, shocking, and oftentimes blood-soaked story couldn't be in more capable hands," Kirkman continued. "With the team of Rogen, Goldberg and Universal, I'm very confident this will be another superhero movie, in a long line of superhero movies that continues to prove that it's a viable, thrilling genre that will keep people coming to the cinema for years to come."

"No matter how much damage it causes our bodies, minds, and our most intimate relationships with those we love, we will not rest until Invincible is as great a movie as it deserves to be," said Rogen and Goldberg in a joint statement

Rogen and Goldberg recently brought another fan favorite comic book series, Preacher, to live-action as an AMC series. Preacher is set to premiere its second season in June.

For Kirkman, this is the third major live-action adaptation of his work. In addition to the monstrous success of The Walking Dead on AMC, Kirkman's Outcast has also been made into a Cinemax television series that will debut its second season in April.
