Samuel L. Jackson Says New Star Wars: The Force Awakens Cast Needs To Go To Lightsaber Fight School

As a guest on Popcorn with Peter Travers, Samuel L. Jackson – who played Jedi Master Mace Windu in the Star Wars prequel trilogy – shared some thoughts on the latest entry in the franchise, Star Wars: The Force Awakens.

Jackson gave a rather "diplomatic" answer, saying the new film was, "Its done in the spirit of the Star Wars films." He then suggested that the film's young cast would benefit from some time at "lightsaber fight school."

It might be a little unfair to compare the novice lightsaber wielders of The Force Awakens against the seasoned Jedi that made up most of the prequel trilogy. Even so, there seemed to be a conscious choice on the part of director J.J. Abrams to tone down the acrobatic fighting style seen in the prequel trilogy in favor of a weightier, euro-medieval fighting style more in line with the original trilogy.

Star Wars: The Force Awakens is currently playing in theaters.
