Simon Pegg Didn't Love The Star Trek Beyond Trailer

Paramount Pictures released the first trailer for Star Trek Beyond several days ago and it was immediately criticized by Trekkies for being action-heavy, seemingly more appropriate for Fast and Furious than Star Trek. Simon Pegg, who co-wrote and stars in it, has heard the criticism and addressed it in a recent red carpet interview.
"It was very action-packed," Pegg admitted to HeyUGuys at the European premiere of Star Wars The Force Awakens. "It was surprising. I find it kinda to be the marketing people saying, 'Everyone come see this film, it's full of action and fun.' When there is a lot more to it than that. I didn't love it because I know there is a lot more to the film. There's a lot more story and a lot more character stuff and a lot more of what I would call 'Star Trek stuff.' They've gotta bring a big audience in. They gotta bang the drum. To the Star Trek fans I'd say, hang in there, be patient"
Listen to Pegg's comments in the video below.
Star Trek Beyond stars Chris Pine and Captain Kirk, Idris Elba, Zoe Saldana, Simon Pegg, Zachary Quinto, Sofia Boutella, and Karl Urban. Justin Lin (Fast & Furious 5 & 6) takes over as director of the Simon Pegg and Doug Jung written film.
Star Trek Beyond transports into theaters July 22, 2016.
