According to Deadline, Sony Animation beat out Warner Bros. and Paramount in a seven-figure bidding war for a movie pitch based on Emojis, the round headed pictographs/icons that originated in Japan to represent emotions, feelings, or activities.
Kung Fu Panda: Secrets of the Masters director Anthony Leondis made the pitch, and will direct the film based on script he'll write with Eric Siegel.
Sony Animation better move quickly as Deadline has heard "another pitch is going to be shopped shortly."
Disclosure: ComicBook is owned by CBS Interactive, a division of Paramount. Sign up for Paramount+ by clicking here.
