Add two more records to the seemingly never-ending list of box office records that Star Wars: The Force Awakens has broken. On Thursday, December 24, Star Wars: The Force Awakens took in $27.5 million at the domestic box office. While it was the lowest total this week for Star Wars: The Force Awakens, it was enough to smash the Christmas Eve box office record of $11.2 million, which was previously held by Avatar.
In addition to breaking the Christmas Eve box office record, Star Wars: The Force Awakens completed its seventh day of release by breaking the opening week domestic box office record. In its first week of release, Star Wars: The Force Awakens has taken in $391.1 million at the domestic box office.
The $391.1 million total breaks the previous record by close to a hundred million. The previous record was held by Jurassic World, which took in $296.2 million during its first week at the domestic box office earlier this year.
