The Force Awakens is breaking one box office record after another. It's hard keeping track of them all!
The latest record that the new Star Wars film can claim is the biggest Christmas Day gross of all time. THR reports that The Force Awakens will pocket $35 million-$40 million on Christmas. That easily surpasses the previous record of $24.6M held by Guy Ritchie's 2009 film Sherlock Holmes starring Robert Downey Jr.
Last weekend, The Force Awakens took the opening weekend box office record away from Jurassic World with $247.9M -- $39M more than the previous record. And now The Force Awakens is eyeing Jurassic World's biggest second weekend record of $106M. That record should fall as The Force Awakens is expected to gross $120M.
Meanwhile on Christmas Day: Will Ferrell and Mark Wahlberg's comedy Daddy's Home will take second-place with $10M, David O. Russell and Jennifer Lawrence's Joy will earn $7M+, Will Smith's Concussion is projected to take in $4M, and Alcon Entertainment's Point Break will scoop up $3M.
