Star Wars: The Force Awakens Producers To Face Charges For Harrison Ford's Broken Leg

Foodles Production Ltd., the production company behind Star Wars: The Force Awakens, has been named in lawsuit concerning the onset incident that resulted in Harrison Ford's broken leg.

Ford, who reprised the role of Han Solo for the film, was injured when a heavy hydraulic metal door that was part of the Millennium Falcon set fell on top of him during production.

The United Kingdom's ealth and Safety Executive informed Foodles, a subsidy of Disney, that representatives are to appear in court on May 12, 2016 to face charges relating to the June 12, 2014 accident.

"HSE has today informed Foodles Production (UK) Ltd that it will be prosecuted over four alleged breaches of health and safety law,"a HSE spokesperson said (via The Independent). "The charges relate to an incident during filming of Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens, which left Harrison Ford with serious injuries after he was hit by a heavy hydraulic door.

"By law, employers must take reasonable steps to protect workers – this is as true on a film set as a factory floor. We have investigated thoroughly and believe that we have sufficient evidence to bring the case to court."

Foodles will face four charges related breaches in UK health and safety regulations.

Ford made a full recovery from injuries, and the accident had no outwardly visibly impact on the production schedule. The film released on its intended Dec. 17, 2015 release date, and has grossed more than $2 billion worldwide. The film will be released on Blu-ray in April.
