Star Wars VFX Legend Phil Tippet Bringing HoloChess-Inspired Game to Life
04/04/2016 10:19 am EDT
Phil Tippett, the two-time Academy Award winning visual effects specialist for Star Wars, Jurassic Park, and more, is finally, as he says in this announcement trailer, "creating monsters for you to play with." Inspired by the "HoloChess" game seen in Star Wars and Star Wars: The Force Awakens, Tippett Studio and HappyGiant are creating HoloGrid: Monster Battle.
The game is an Augmented Reality and Virtual Reality game, with the goal being you playing with virtual monsters on a real desktop or table. While no publishing deal (or release date) was announced with the reveal trailer, the game looks like it'll have similar gameplay to Magic or Hearthstone, with your monsters coming to life via physical playing cards for a true AR experience.
HappyGiant promises more info on HoloGrid: Monster Battle will come soon, but for now you can watch the trailer above and start planning where you'll put your own Dejarik table.
