The Jungle Book 2 Moving Forward at Disney
04/11/2016 02:48 pm EDT
With Disney's live-action adaptation of The Jungle Book expected to easily capture #1 at the domestic box office this weekend, it's perhaps no surprise that the studio is already thinking about potential sequels.
What's arguably more impressive? They've already committed to one.
THR reports that The Jungle Book 2 already has a green light at the studio. Writer Justin Marks and director Jon Favreau are in negotiations to return, with Favreau producing.
Live-action adaptations of their animated classics have been dominating Disney's non-Marvel blockbusters of late, with Cinderella, Maleficent, and Alice in Wonderland joined by upcoming releases like Beauty and the Beast, The Jungle Book, and Alice Through the Looking Glass.
The Jungle Book 2 was an animated feature that went straight to DVD in 2003. It's unlikely the new film will take its cues from that movie.
The Jungle Book is written by Justin Marks, and directed by Jon Favreau. The film stars Neel Sethi as Mowgli, features the voices of Bill Murray, Ben Kingsley, Idris Elba, Jamie Dornan, Lupita Nyong'o, Scarlett Johansson and Christopher Walken.
The Jungle Book opens in theaters April 15, 2016.
