The Rock Set To Star In Jungle Cruise, Based On The Disneyland Ride

Disney has seen varied success in their attempts to adapt films based on their rides and attractions at various Disney parks. Though Pirates of the Caribbean has been a worldwide phenomenon, others such as Tomorrowland and the Haunted Mansion have seen mixed results.

They're hoping the Rock won't sink and can buoy another ride-based film, as they've recently announced plans to start production on Jungle Cruise starring Dwayne Johnson according to the Hollywood Reporter.

Jungle Cruise opened in 1955 with Disneyland opening its doors and is one the few original attractions still in operation more than 60 years later.

Johnson is attached to star as well as co-produce, alongside his production partner Dany Garcia of Seven Bucks Entertainment.

Jungle Cruise has been rumored to be in development with Disney since 2015. The Rock has also been involved with myriad adaptations or reboots of late, with remakes of Baywatch and Jumanji on the horizon and filming set to begin on a movie based on the Kong-like monster game Rampage.

With Johnson finalizing his deal to take part in the production, the search now begins for a director to join the film. Shooting is expected to begin in the Spring 2018 time frame.

The Rock can next be seen sporting red swimming trunks in the R-rated remake of Baywatch alongside Zac Efron and Alexandria Daddario on May 26.

BAYWATCH follows devoted lifeguard Mitch Buchannon (Johnson) as he butts heads with a brash new recruit (Efron). Together, they uncover a local criminal plot that threatens the future of the Bay.

The film stars Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson (Central Intelligence, San Andreas, Fast & Furious franchise) and Zac Efron (Neighbors, Mike and Dave Need Wedding Dates). Joining Johnson and Efron are Alexandra Daddario (San Andreas, True Detective), Priyanka Chopra (Quantico), Jon Bass (Big Time in Hollywood, FL, The Newsroom), Kelly Rohrbach (Café Society), Ilfenesh Hadera (Billions), and Hannibal Buress (Daddy's Home, Neighbors).

Seth Gordon (Horrible Bosses, Identity Thief) is directing the film from a screenplay most recently written by Damian Shannon & Mark Swift and Barry Schwartz. Beau Flynn (San Andreas, Hercules), Ivan Reitman (Ghostbusters, Up In the Air), and Michael Berk, Doug Schwartz (Soul Surfer) & Greg Bonann, creators of the iconic Baywatch television series, are producing. The executive producers are Michele Berk (Bandits, Kill the Sparrows), Louise Rosner (The Big Short, The Hunger Games franchise), Tom Pollock (Up In The Air, Oold School), and Ali Bell (Hitchcock). Eli Roth is a co-producer.
