Transformers Disappoints, Wonder Woman Soars In Latest Box Office Results

The latest Transformers movie has performed slightly worse than the already low expectation analysts placed on its opening weekend.

Though the original projection for Transformers: The Last Knight sat at $70 million, it looks like it will pull in just $69.1 million for its box office debut.

Though it had a good bump from Saturday crowds, the Michael Bay movie marks the lowest opening in the Transformers franchise's history. Although there is a silver lining in the movie's opening in the international markets, buoyed by its performance in the People's Republic of China.

 So far the fifth Transformers movie has hauled in $196.2 million internationally, bumping up its global total to $265.3 million.

Deadline's report compares similarly to the previous film in the franchise, Transformers: Age of Extinction. The Last Knight brought in $123.4 million from China, performing better than people expected.

And while a $200 million opening is nothing to balk at, Paramount is seeing diminishing returns on each Transformers movie. The franchise fatigue is real, so you have to wonder what their plans are for the future of the series and how the proposed Bumblebee spinoff will be affected.

In other news, Wonder Woman's fourth weekend performed just about the same as Cars 3, with industry analysts putting them at $25.05 million and $24.6 million respectively.

Wonder Woman crossed the $300 million mark in domestic box offices this weekend, bumping its total up to $318 million. It has outpaced every other film in DC's Cinematic Universe so far, surpassing Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice's $311 million total at the 24-day mark.

It will soon beat both Suicide Squad ($325 million) and Batman v Superman ($330 million) to become the third highest grossing DC Comics film at the domestic box office, after the Dark Knight and the Dark Knight Rises.

5. All Eyez On Me

Against all odds, Shakur's raw talent, powerful lyrics and revolutionary mindset establish him as a cultural icon whose legacy continues to grow long after his death.

All Eyez On Me is directed by Benny Boom and written by Jeremy Haft, Eddie Gonzalez, and Steven Bagatourian. Titled after Tupac Shakur's 1996 album, the film stars Demetrius Shipp Jr. as Shakur and Kat Graham, Lauren Cohan, Hill Harper, and Danai Gurira.
