X-Men: Apocalypse Trailer Hints At More Super Heroic Costumes

The new X-Men: Apocalypse trailer was released earlier today, and we've already dug into our favorite moments from the trailer, but there may be something else worth noticing. If you pay attention, you may spot our first look at some new, more super heroic costumes for the cinematic X-Men.

Director Bryan Singer previously hinted that we'll be seeing some more colorful costumes for the movie mutants, with a more comic book aesthetic, saying, "in X-Men: Apocalypse, there is a chance, without giving anything way, that you may get closer to seeing what I think…you are interested in seeing."

So that brings us to two shots in the new X-Men: Apocalypse trailer. The first is a shot of Mystique as she tells someone we don't see, presumably Xavier's students, that they are no longer children, but X-Men. To me, this seems like a closing scene of the film, one in which Mystique is presiding over a kind of graduation for the young X-Men. Further, the scene brings Mystique's story arc full circle, as she rejects the terrorist life she lived alongside Magneto in the pre-Days of Future Past timeline to stand by Professor X's side as an X-Man instead in the new timeline.

In this closing shot, we can see that she is both blue, something that fans noted was rare in the previous trailer, and dressed in a dramatically different costume than the armored suit we've seen all of the X-Men in so far. This new costume seems directly inspired by Mystique's most iconic and recognizable costume form the comics. The film costume's outer portion is blue, while the center section is white, similar to how Mystique's blue skin would offset the white dress she wore in the comics.

Quicksilver also gets a costume upgrade, and seems to be directly responding to Mystique's speech in this shot. While his costume doesn't seem to directly parallel any of his classic looks – there no lightning bolt across his chest – it is certainly more super heroic.
